For three years in the 1950s, Kiichi Asano traveled to the Japanese Noto, Echigo, and Tohoku regions to photograph landscapes covered with snow. A resident of temperate Kyoto, where it rarely snows, Asano was fascinated by these wintry landscapes and the people who lived there.
