A Russian Porcelain Reticulated Landscape Plate Imperial Porcelain Factory, Period of Nicholas I (1825-1855), circa 1850s 9-3/4 inches (24.8 cm) PROVENANCE: John Atzbach Antiques, Bellevue, Washington; The Kathleen Durdin Collection of Russian Decorative Arts, Tampa, Florida. This unusual and rare reticulated plate by the Imperial Porcelain factory appears to center an image from the eastern territories of the Empire, possibly that of Kamchatka. It appears to be a view of drawn from the lithographs by Friedrich Heinrich Kittlitz, and Edouard Jean Marie Hostein, which were published in a volume of maps published after the round-the-world voyage of the ship Seniavin commissioned by Tsar Nicholas I and carried out in 1826-29 under the command of Captain Fedor Lutke. This voyage was one of the most important Russian scientific naval surveys of the 19th century.
