Lot Details
A Russian Cloisonné Enameled Gilt Silver Pictorial Kovsh Pavel Ovchinnikov, Attributed to Feodor Rückert, Moscow, before 1899 8-1/8 x 12-1/2 x 7-3/4 inches (20.6 x 31.8 x 19.7 cm) 1868 grams PROVENANCE: Sotheby Parke Bernet, New York, Russian Works of Art, April 27, 1972, lot 100. It appears that Rückert made several virtually identical kovshi of this this form. The others are all marked Rückert, though not all appear to have been stamped and retailed by Ovchinnikov, as with this example, which appears not to have a Rückert stamp. Another example with Rückert and Ovchinnikov marks was sold Christie's New York, Fine Russian Works of Art, April 12, 1988. Lot 174. A similar example with variants is illustrated, Hill, G., Fabergé and the Russian Master Goldsmiths, Park Lane: New York, 1989, pl. 186, and an example by Rückert and apparently without Ovchinnikov marks is pictured in Tatiana Muntian's Feodor Rückert & Carl Fabergé, Moscow, 2016, pp. 128-129.
