Lot Details
Christopher Killip (British, 1946) Alison and Dog, Lynemouth, Northumberland, 1983 Gelatin silver print, printed c. 1984. Signed, titled and dated in pencil, verso. image: 11-1/4 x 13-1/2 inches (28.6 x 34.3 cm) sheet: 14 x 16-3/4 inches PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from the artist. LITERATURE: G. Badger, Chris Killip, London, Phaidon 55, 2001, np. "Killip lived in the seacoalers' camp and was able to photograph life from the inside, capturing moments of intimacy, like this image of Alison playing with her dog on a dull and dreary day. Despite all the bickering that can exist in an itinerant camp, where the living is precarious, such a picture reminds us that, however rough and ready, the seacoalers' camp was a community. The goal was not, as some local councillors would have it, to offend gentility and create an eyesore, but to feed themselves and their children.' (Badger, ibid.) Acquired directly from the artist.
Neutral toned print on semi-gloss, double-weight paper with margins. A beautiful print, in excellent condition. Sold matted and unframed
