Neil Folberg (American, b. 1950) Vincent's Chair, Auberge Ravoux, Auver sur Oise, 2003 Digital pigment print 39 x 30-1/2 inches (99.1 x 77.5 cm) (image/sheet) Signed, titled, dated, and editioned 2/10 in ink, mount verso. PROVENANCE: Nikola Rukaj Gallery, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Private collection. This photograph was staged in the café of the Auberge Ravoux, where Vincent Van Gogh spent the last days of his life. It is featured in the Abbeville Press book, Travels with Van Gogh and the Impressionists by Lin Arison and Neil Folberg. Van Gogh used this style chair as a symbol for himself in a painting he made in 1888. Here Folberg has perched Vincent's chair precariously, upside-down in the café of the Auberge Ravoux, where the sole patron seems to have just departed.
