Born in Iowa in 1911, Reid Crowell became a notable figure in Texas art through his deep connection to the Dallas Art Institute, where he studied under and later taught alongside prominent artist Olin Travis. Though he also trained in Minnesota and Colorado, Crowell's artistic identity was shaped in Dallas under the guidance of Travis and Karl Gasslander. In 1945, the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts presented a solo exhibition of his block prints and paintings, highlighting his contributions to the regional art scene.
