Attributed to Johann Carl Loth (German, 1632-1698) Hagar and the Angel Ink heightened with white on tan paper 7 x 10-1/2 inches (17.8 x 26.7 cm) (sheet) Property from the William A. Glaser Collection PROVENANCE: Savoy Art & Auction Galleries, New York, February 27, 1960, lot 1 (in a group with three other works); Acquired by the present owner from the above. Dr. Bernard Aikema examined photographs of this sketch and acknowledged in a letter dated June 19, 1989 that the technique and composition were in accordance with that of Loth. Additionally, the collector's handwritten notes describe a visit with Dr. Ann Sutherland Harris on June 13, 1992, at which point she viewed the work in person and also suggested an attribution to Loth.
