Lot Details
LeRoy Neiman (American, 1921-2012) Cat Devours Femlin, unpublished Playboy interior, (three works) Ink and gouache on paper 8 x 14 inches (20.3 x 35.6 cm) (largest) Signed lower left of final panel: LeRoy Neiman This original three-panel Femlin cartoon by LeRoy Neiman showcases his iconic Playboy magazine character with an exceptional blend of storytelling and humor. It stands out as a rare piece for Neiman, not only because of its three-panel format but also for its overt moral. Though the impish Femlin is known for often taking her love of animals too far, the consequences of her irrepressible spirit are rarely so obvious as in this work. Preliminary drawings for this work appear on page 65 of LeRoy Neiman: Femlin 50th Anniversary Collection (M Press, 2007) and on page 40 of Femlin 1957-2007 (Franklin Bowles Galleries, 2007). Minor paper discoloration with a few small spots of staining along edges. Handling creases, most apparent in extreme corners. 1 1/2 inch repaired tear at upper right to largest, not affecting figures. Framed Dimensions 36 X 20 Inches
