Bunny Yeager (American, 1929-2014) Bunny and her Burke & James 8 x 10 Camera, 1963 Digital pigment print, printed later 22 x 17 inches (55.9 x 43.2 cm) (sight) Signed and editioned 2/5 in pencil, verso. Titled and dated on label affixed to mount verso. From the collection of Grapefruit Moon Gallery EXHIBITED: Gavlak, Los Angeles, California, "Bunny Yeager 'How I Photograph Myself' July 25-August 29, 2015. LITERATURE: B. Yeager, How I Photograph Myself, New York, cover & pp 33. B. Yeager, Bunny Yeager's Pin-Up Girls of the 1960s, Pennsylvania, pp. 23 (variant). One of Bunny Yeager's most defining self-portraits, this is a dynamic and deeply saturated color view of the photographer showing off her clever trick of using a string tied around her toe as part of her process of creating self-portrait photography. Posed as a blonde bombshell in tight leotard, this is at once pure pin-up and deeply serious--the perfect encapsulation of Yeager herself. Toward the end of her life, Bunny Yeager found the critical acclaim that had overlooked her for much of her career, with celebrated exhibitions at galleries in Florida and beyond, and a museum exhibition at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA. For these, Yeager reapproached her earlier work as works of fine art, creating museum quality exhibition sized prints such as the one seen here.
