Das Gemälde ist von einer Zeichnung aus der Bellesi- Sammlung inspiriert und wurde dann auf einem Gemälde von Canaletto in der Albertini-Sammlung in Rom wiederverwendet. Im Vergleich zu diesem Prototyp unterscheidet sich James' Leinwand in der Staffage, im Blickwinkel, der hier den Glockenturm von San Giorgio einschließt, und auch in den Markisen und Vorhängen, die sich rechts am Kai befinden. Das Gemälde in qualitätvollster, präziser Manier mit zahlreichen Figuren und genauen Details, in überwiegend weicher Farbgebung. (1430317) (13)

The painting is inspired by a drawing in the Bellesi collection and was then reused on a painting by Canaletto in the Albertini collection in Rome. Compared to this prototype, James' painting differs in the staffage, in the perspective, which here includes the bell tower of San Giorgio, and in the awnings and curtains located on the right side of the pier.
