Lot Details
Sculpture . Square steel, massive. Unique object. 185 x 200 x 230 cm.
Based on the observation that the movement of regular parts of a sculpture on the ground creates regular patterns, like drawings on the floor, the artist developed frame skeletons, pyramids, cones, tetrahedrons, and circle divisions. These sculptures have different spatial appearances and create a flat image on the floor completely independent of the sculpture. [EH].
- Unique object. - From the group of works entitled “Flächenabwicklungen”. - Alf Lechner tirelessly explores the possibilities of dividing and subdividing geometric shapes, in this case the cone. - The artist is one of the leading German sculptors of his time, his preferred material is solid, durable steel.
LITERATURE: Dieter Honisch, Alf Lechner. Skulpturen, Nuremberg 1990, catalogue raisonné no. 199 (ilustrated) - - Ketterer Kunst, Munich, A 343. Post War / Contemporary Art, December 4, 2008, lot 676 (illustrated on pp. 80 ff).
Private collection, Freiburg/Merzhausen (acquired directly from the artist). Private collection, Bavaria (2008, Ketterer Kunst)
