Mme Toni Straus-Negbaur, Berlin-Grunewald (Lugt 2459a); Her sale: Paul Cassirer and Hugo Helbing, Berlin, June 6, 1928, lot 410; (With) Barnes, France, by 1931; Christie's, New York, June 16, 1999, lot 2; Acquired by the present owner from the above.
A beautiful impression. The condition of the work is consistent with its age. Mild toning to the sheet with some heavier areas evident along verso upper edge; likely due to vestiges of hinging in the area and along mica areas on verso, an inherent vice of the medium. A few small accretions along verso edges, likely due to handling. Some minor areas of skinning along extreme verso edges likely due to previous hinging or mounting efforts, do not appear to impact sheet's integrity or recto image. Toni Straus-Negbaur's ink collection stamp (Lugt 2459a), verso lower left. No tears or losses observed. Unframed.
