Charles Partridge Adams (American, 1858-1942) Estes Park Oil on canvas 10 x 14 inches (25.4 x 35.6 cm) Signed lower left: Charles. Partridge Adams PROVENANCE: The artist; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Aldous, acquired from the above, circa 1921; Private collection, Glenwood Springs, Colorado. A letter from the artist dated August 3, 1921 accompanies the lot and states: My Dear Mr. Aldous:- In regard to the small oil painting that you recently purchased of me. It represents an afternoon in Autumn after the early snows has fallen, and the frost has turned the grass to a dull yellow color. It is taken from the slopes of Brinwood Mountain near Moraine Park, and shows [...], which are part of the main Rocky Mts. range on the southwestern border of Estes Park, having an altitude of about 13,000 feet above sea bank and and some 7-8,000 feet above Estes Park. I regard it as an unusually strong and firm example of my work on a small scale, and trust that is may always be a pleasant picture to look at, as well as a souvenir of Estes Park both to yourself and Mrs. Aldous.
