Das monumentale fünfteilige Werk auf Kupfer mit applizierten Korallen ist stilistisch und technisch den großformatigen Arbeiten James Browns aus den späten 1980er-Jahren zuzuordnen. Charakteristisch sind der Bildträger aus Kupfer, die Einbeziehung organischer Materialien sowie die archaisch-symbolische Bildsprache mit religiösen und mythologischen Bezügen. Vergleichbar ist „Five sorrowful mysteries IV“ (1988), Mischtechnik auf Kupfer, versteigert bei Christie‘s, New York, 1. Dezember 1999, Lot 311. Verso Polaroid-Fotos der jeweiligen Korallen zur Zuordnung angebracht.

The monumental five-part work on copper, with applied coral elements, can be associated stylistically and technically with James Brown’s large-format works of the late 1980s. A comparable work is “Five Sorrowful Mysteries IV” (1988), mixed media on copper, sold at Christie’s, New York, 1 December 1999, lot 311. The individual panels with Polaroid photographs of the respective coral elements, affixed for identification on the reverse.
