PROVENANCE: Private collection, San Antonio; Heritage Auctions, Dallas, November 5, 2011, lot 76076; Private collection, Austin. Xavier Gonzalez' work evolved and changed with the times. In the 1920s, he was painting in the impressionist tradition. With the 1930s, Gonzalez became one of Texas' most accomplished regionalist painters and muralists completing four WPA post office murals and winning the international competition for the mural at the Los Angeles Museum of Art.
