The watercolour was begun on the reverse with a double portrait that was not completed. The sheet belongs to the watercolour series of 'Fantasies', which were created between 1931 and 1935.
The work is accompanied by a photographic expertise by Professor Dr Manfred Reuther, Stiftung Seebüll Ada und Emil Nolde, dated 17 March 2008.
